ÐÓ°ÉÔ´´ÔÚÏß Restores Historic Rotunda in Fort Greene, Brooklyn

ÐÓ°ÉÔ´´ÔÚÏß recently completed a restoration project of a historic two story half-semi circular rotunda in rear of a coop building in Fort Greene, Brooklyn.  The rotunda is approximately 100 years old, consisting of wood framing and old fashioned crafted corrugated metal cladding.

The owners of the coop asked ÐÓ°ÉÔ´´ÔÚÏß to help address some water leaks which were penetrating through the deteriorated exterior metal skin cladding in multiple areas, thus compromising the structural integrity of the rotunda.  To repair this condition, the entire metal cladding of the rotunda had to be removed and re-fabricated as in kind.

Landmarks considers these rotundas to be a unique historic feature meant to be preserved, and they therefore requested the restoration be accomplished using similar materials and design.

ÐÓ°ÉÔ´´ÔÚÏß, together with nC2 Architecture, prepared the necessary drawings and specifications for the approval of the work, and a metalwork specialist was selected to fabricate the cladding.

In earlier times, the machinery available to craft such elaborate circular metal work allowed for the fabrication of these large curved circular sections.  However, today such machinery is rarely available.

Nevertheless, we fabricated a duplicate custom metal cladding, and installed it over newly repaired framing, all under a protected scaffolding structure.  The project lasted 6 months.
